Woke up to a beautiful and rosy morning with clear skies. Actually the entire weekend and the all of last week has been beautiful. Clear and sunny days with plenty of sunshine. What a great start to this month of December. Do I miss snow? No, not at all. For me it is perfect with snow in the alps but I don't need it right where I live.
Saturday I headed into town and it was a busy day. Quite a lot of people out doing Christmas shopping. The Christmas market drawing a lot of people as well.
Free hugs were delivered. I got a picture as well as two hugs from these guys.
Plenty of people enjoying the sun just like myself. Either out walking or sitting a long the river bank as you can see here just soaking up on sunshine.
Even if these December days are far from long with the sun setting at 5 pm at least the days are way longer here than those in Stockholm. Just being able to get some sunshine during the day makes such a difference as well. Old town Basel is really pretty.
No more fall colors or leaves left any longer. I went for a long walk yesterday. I did not plan on it getting quite as long as it did in the end. It was just so nice to walk in the sunshine. So relaxing and meditative. Letting the thoughts come and go. I ended up walking for 2 hours. Took the tram out to Rhien which is one of the wealthy and nice suburbs of Basel and walked all the way home from there.
The weather was perfect for walking, not too cold. About 5 degrees C. People are still sitting outside as you can see having coffee.
Passed by the toy museum in Rhien where there was a Christmas market going on and a band playing. People drinking gluwine and enjoying the market and music.
Fell a sleep like a baby yesterday after all that fresh air, sunshine and exercise. It can be so relaxing to just walk and walk sometimes and clear your head.
Passed this special tram wagon where people were having afternoon cocktail hour with champagne. Also passed the Christmas tram for kids that is driven by Santa himself. Decorated with lots of Christmas decorations and where kids during a 90 minute ride can listen to Christmas stories being read. But did not get a picture of it.
The main town square with the red beautiful court house. Old town is even more charming now with all the Christmas lights and decorations. Even if nothing is open when it comes to stores on Sundays it is still nice to walk here and do some window shopping.
Looks like this will be another sunny week in Basel to enjoy. Love that. Tomorrow C is back home again which will be very nice. I must not forgett to pick him up at the airport as I did last time when I got the his time of arrival wrong.
Have a great start to the week.
