Saturday evening we were invited to Swiss P whom C lived with during his first two months in Switzerland. He rented a room in P's apartment and that is how we got to know him. A friendship that started with being room mates. We were invited for traditional cheese fondue which is eaten during winter here. The fondue season has just started by now as people say here. It does taste really good but it is very very heavy food. I just could not eat so much of it. For me it is perfect as a starter but not as the main meal itself. We did enjoy the dinner and the nice evening. It was also the first evening where German was spoken the entire evening and yes I did participate in the conversation as well. C told me on the way home that he was very proud over me. And P also gave me compliments on my German. It just made me beam with happiness.
Sunday we went for a wonderful hike with our Swiss& German friends A and C. This is another typical Swiss Sunday activity. Sundays you go for hikes or walks. The weather was just gorgeous as you can see with plenty of sunshine and clear blue skies. Chipotle came a long with us of course. That dog just has so much energy that it is unbelievable that he is 9 going to be 10 years soon. Lot's of play going on in the snow. We did a hike in the Jura mountains that is about a 45 minute drive from Basel. As you can see there was quite a lot of snow up here in the mountain region.
We had to work to reach this view but it was so much worth it once we reached the top. A stunning view of the Alps in the horizon! So beautiful. Once again I was in total awe of the beauty that Switzerland offers again and again.
My hiking boots that I was wearing were comfy and perfect for the hike. They kept my feet dry and warm even if we had to cross some sections with pretty deep snow. The first part of the hike took quite an effort as it was pure up hill. Hiking in the sunshine was just wonderful. Even had to take of my jacket and fleece until we reached the top.
Happy and proud we reached the top of the peak.
At the top there was also this little picknick area with wooden tables and benches. We sat down and had a piece of bread, some water and some fruit as a light snack before we continued our hike down hill.
We passed by both cows and horses. There are several farms located in this area. Pure clean country side.
We just had the most perfect Sunday. All that fresh air, exercise and sunshine did take their toll on us but in a good and positive way. We were so tired that evening. I love being tired in this way.
Four two legged friends and one four legged friend having a blast in the snow.
Down in the valley there was not as much snow as you can see. The small villages just look so cute where they are scattered among the mountain ridges down in the valley.
This seems crazy but we are approaching Christmas fast. Can hardly believe that this is the last week before Christmas week it self. Intense with a lot of things happening but plenty too look forward to and enjoy. Tomorrow I have my last class of German here in Basel. We are going out for coffee. Thursday we are invited for a small Christmas party at a collague of C. Next Sunday is the fourth of Advent. We have to prepare for Christmas when it comes to food and grocery shopping. We have to start packing for our Florida trip soon. This is the last week of German for my online course and then I have some more translating work to work on. A busy week with work and fun.
Have a great week!
