Swiss national day

Hello August. Can’t believe it already turned into the last summer month. Last part of July we enjoyed having family over. We loved our trip to northern Italy and the Ligurian peninsula. We have been home in Basel for a while now. I have however, chosen to disconnect and take a vacation from the blog. Sometimes that is needed as well. We just celebrated Swiss national day this weekend on August first. Hello dear blog friends. Feels good to be back. I will tell you more about all the stuff we have been up to eventually.

The Swiss weggli or bun that is sold everywhere for national day celebration. It looks nice but I found it kind of disappointing. It is just a plain white bun, a bread. Not sweet, no nothing really except it looks cute with the little flag. So I wonder how it is supposed to be eaten? Just plain like this or together with something else?

National day we spent together with our American friends Carol and Aaron. We spent the day hiking together (more about that hike later on) and enjoyed the evening together on their rooftop terrace. A perfect spot to watch the fireworks later on. The dinner was sort of a spur of the moment idea so we did a pot lock with what we had which turned out yummy.

A beautiful and balmy evening that was perfect for fireworks.

It seemed like every little village proudly presented their own fire works. Where ever you looked in the horizon there were colorful explosions going on. From 10 pm when it darkened until 11:30 the night sky was filled with colorful sparks.

The skyline over Basel as it darkened. Such a cozy and perfect way to end a perfect day together. Summer evening being warm enough to be able to sit out here and just enjoy and relax.

Kind of crazy it is already August. As I am writing this another powerful thunderstorm just rolled in with heavy rain and lightening. The latter half of July has been kind of unstable. Lots of showers and thunderstorms and then some nice and sunny days in between. It has been a mix. Basel is very green and lush. The plants growing on the roofs of the house complex have never been so green.

Kram!
