Despite not having plans to put it up and decorating it, it's now up and I feel really good about it. It just adds so much more Christmas spirit to our home. Friday we met up with Carol and Lilli and had a nice evening at the Basel Christmas market. They were not planning on celebrating Christmas as they are flying off to Venice a few days on the 25th and Aaron that currently is in the US is landing in Basel on the afternoon of the 24th. We invited them over for our Swedish Christmas eve. So they will get some Christmas and we will get to meet up with them one last time before they move back to the US. Thus we got the perfect reason to get the tree up. Carol and Lilli came over on Sunday and helped us decorate it.
I also baked a saffron cake. Saffron is not a spice that is associated with Christmas here in Switzerland. It's more of an all year spice. I find it a bit different here compared to the regular Swedish saffron. The threads are longer and somehow harder to dissolve. I put it in a spoonful of Rum over night but it would have required additional help to dissolve completely. Next time maybe I should grind the threads a little.
Saffron cakes with apple. They looked prettier once they were sprinkled with some confection sugar.
Sunday was just a beautiful winter day. Not very cold (around 11 C celcius) but with plenty of sunshine. A perfect day for a nice walk in the woods. That is exactly what me and C did. A Sunday walk is something very common and popular here. You greet everyone that you meet in Swiss German. It is very much like in the US where everyone is greeting each other.
