A weekend mix with a little bit of everything. Rain, sunshine, home improvements, shopping, new friendship, good bites and an anniversary celebration.
The rain kept pouring down non stop Friday and Saturday. I just saw the big headlines in the Swedish newspaper about the floods in central Europe. It has been extremely wet and rainy the past couple of weeks here. The rivers around here have also over flooded. No boats have been crossing the Rhine as the currents and water have been too strong.
Saturday we did some shopping. First a visit to IKEA (the Mothership). We wanted to stock up some crisp bread and herring for Midsummer. We will be celebrating midsummer here in Basel and then leaving for Sweden on the day after midsummer.
We also got the chance to finally visit some of the other furniture and home decorating stores located around IKEA. I discovered Pfister a Swiss furniture store that has a lot of nice things.
We bought this kerosene lamp that looks so great on our outdoor porch. Giving the porch the last final touch of perfection. We had been searching for such a kerosene lamp for a while. This was just what we had in mind.
Saturday was also our 11th anniversary which we celebrated at home with a nice dinner. Cooked a seafood risotto that turned out delicious. Celebrated with a nice bottle of champagne as well.
Sunday I was busy most of the day helping out at the Expat Expo held here in Basel. Being a member of the American Women's Club I helped them set up the stand and handed out flyers and information to other new potential members. It was a fun day and the Expat Expo was great for me as a newcomer to Basel. Free of charge and there was lot's of things I found out about activities and various groups, language schools ect going on here in Basel.
Finally some sunshine on Sunday. Yay! So so happy to see the sun again. We had invited C's mountain bike friend Aaron over with his wife and two daughters. The just moved to Switzerland in January from California. We had a wonderful evening with a very tasty BBQ. We seemed to share and have many things in common. I think this could all turn into some new great friends to have fun with here in Switzerland.
Today Monday is so far a good start to the week. No rain means a good start. This will be a week filled with lots of fun and exiting stuff. Tomorrow we will have the wine tasting that was canceled last week due to illness. Then Wednesday we are going out to celebrate my friend F's birthday. Friday I am going to check out an English book sale at one of the libraries here. Then early Saturday morning we are taking the train to Paris for the weekend. So yes, I am exited about this week!
