Saturday we did also visited Grindelwald that is located about half an hour from the waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen. I am so glad we were lucky with the weather. As we left Basel and drove here the rain was pouring down and even while in Lauterbrunnen the skies were pretty gray and overcast but then the day turned out beautiful. Here in Grindelwald you have the famous Eiger peak. The north face of the Eiger has been climbed by many hard core climbers.
We had lunch in the village and then decided on taking the cog wheel train up to Kleine Scheidegg. You have all the Japanese tourist continuing on to the highest point which is the Jungfraujoch where you have the glacier. That last part is ridiculous expensive.
I am glad we took the train because it was quite a spectacular journey. Me and C have taken the train previously but only in winter as we have been here skiing. But being here in spring/early summer proved to be so pretty.
The slopes you ski on during winter are now green fields for the cows and some of the cozy small cabin restaurants are still open.
Love this view of the little apple tree in full bloom, the snow covered mountain wall and the green fields. Such stark contrasts.
The cows taking it easy in the sunshine. (Paus I Bregott fabriken).
As we were approaching the Kleine Scheidegg station there was more and more snow as you can see. Quite a lot more than I had expected for it being the end of May. The hiking season in the Alps does not start until July and you can understand why when you are up here.
So awkward to see the same place you have been skiing at like this with mere patches of snow.
For those continuing up to the Glacier at Jungfraujoch they change trains here to this little red train. The last part of the journey with the red train is mostly through the mountain so I guess you do not see much until you reach the top.
The train journey each way took about 30 minutes. I am very glad we did it because the views were so pretty. The landscape kept changing as the altitude changed. My parents really enjoyed the day and the beautiful views. Even if we have been here before there are places like these that are so beautiful they are worth visiting on numerous occasions and during different times of the year.
