C is back from Boston. It feels great to have him home again. I was supposed to go and pick him up at the airport yesterday but somehow I had got his arrival time mixed up. I was so sure he was arriving in the evening so I went to the gym and enjoyed a pool and spa day there. Meanwhile C arrived, waited for me and called me a zillion times. When I got home he was already home of course. I felt bad about it but mistakes happen after all and I was forgiven.
Yesterday we enjoyed a small road trip among the wine fields of Germany. A beautiful fall day with plenty of sunshine. I am starting to appreciate my Sundays here when all is closed. It makes you explore more and enjoy the out doors more. A perfect day for a photography hike.
We drove into Svartzwald to see how far the fall colors had come. Mostly greens still so I guess the real fall colors will need about a month more before they are here. However, we did end up driving among the hills and suddenly found ourselves right in the middle of a vinyard region. So beautiful!
Several kinds of grapes seemed to be grown on the slopes here. At least three different kinds we figured. Both white and red grapes.
Such a pretty landscape with the small villages tucked among the soft hills and vinyards.
We just love going for drives like this one. You just drive around and suddenly you end up in such a beautiful landscape. We looked at each other and again realized just how happy we are living here in and with these surroundings.
We were so lucky because we found we arrived on a day when they were actually harvesting the grapes. Most of the white grapes had already been picked and the harvest of the red grapes was going on right as we were there.
The pickers were busy doing their job and the tractor very skillfully navigated it's way down and in among the rows collecting the full buckets of grapes that had been picked.
Even if we did not see much fall colors on the trees we found some pretty fall colors on the vines.
Among the green hills we passed a number of small charming German villages. This village just had the cutest little bell tower I have seen. The distances between the villages is not far. Most of them are located at about 3-5 km of each other.
We found a road that led us up to the very top of one of the mountains. The clouds were drifting in but the view was still spectacular. We absolutely must come back for the view once the fall colors have arrived.
This seemed to be a popular area for hiking. There were a number of different trails to choose from. We were also able to spot Basel somewhere in the distance some 32 km away from where we were standing.
A perfect Sunday. This is exactly what I love doing, exploring the surroundings, enjoying the beautiful landscape, being outdoors on a beautiful day like this one. Going on a road trip and spending time with C and my beloved camera of course.
Today the rain is pouring down and it sure feels like fall. I guess I will have get my rain coat today when heading out. What is your Monday like?
